Hour long mixes drain the life out of me. Super fun to do, but I'm trying to make beats, roll sushi, and dj. I don't have the time to take away from one thing because I love doing all of them. So... I'm going to make 33 1/3 mixes every now and then. Just because they're quicker. I'll still make hour long mixes don't worry. Consider 33 1/3 a side project.

Shout out to Cloud from Skill Methodz crew. Florida represent represent! Red Bull BC One went down last night in NY. Would have loved to have been there. Not sure how the final battle went down, but thanks to youtube for allowing people to post up vids as soon as the event is done. Cloud's also a dancer for Madonna. Lilou ended up winning for his 2nd time, but I'm sure Cloud will be back.

A few months ago I was DJing Wed-Sat nights. Busy busy busy, and still rolling sushi at Bento. It was fun for a while and then hectic after that. The idea of doing something you love and getting paid for it.. Scratch that... DOING what you love and getting paid pretty well for it is a dream come true. Unfortunately things aren't that simple sometimes. What happened under these circumstances is that I had to make so many different groups happy that I sort of lost myself as a real DJ. Promoters want to hear one thing, the people at the club want to hear another thing, and I was trying to keep myself happy. I started to really hate music. Even music that I genuinely love (because my ears were in a constant state of worn the heck out) due to loud, sometimes crappy speakers. Also I didn't get the chance to really listen to new music and get a feel for it because I was always having to constantly just update and get it ready to play. So then I woke up from that nightmare and I continue on my path to make my dreams and goals come to life. I'm ready. This isn't DJ Hero, this is real DJing.. the plan..DJ in even bigger venues, throw events, and get get get it! So now that I love music again here are some tracks that caught my ear.

I'll start by saying that I'm not a huge fan of ABDC - America's Best Dance Crew. It's not because I think it's rigged (I really do) and because it should've been Jabba vs Kaba (it really should have been) or even because I find Lil Mama to be annoying (she is). I'm not a huge fan because during one show I think Shane Sparks was speaking to one of the crews who breakdance and said something along the lines of you guys brought breakdancing back. This is probably a less valid reason than the others, but it reminded me of one year when I was spinning at Soul Cypher in Gainesville and some random guy wanted to make an announcement.
He got on the mic and said I'm going to invest in this because there's a future in it. Not a future like, yes b-boying is still going strong and I recognize this, but a future like it was something that he could put money into and develop it. And then he disappeared. Which brings me back to ABDC. Maybe from an outside point of view breakdancing went somewhere, but it never really left. I've been asking myself when and where is the next jam I can go to since '02.

Each time I've been to NY (a total of 3 the last few years) there are people dancing in the subways or out on a block putting on shows. I'm not sure at what point people think it disappeared, but I remember watching Battle of the Year and Freestyle Session videos (yes videos). The first time I saw breaking live though, a tour called Break! in 00-01ish it involved Skill Methodz doing their thing. Where I met Cloud (who went on to dance for Madonna). One of them taught me how to do a windmill, and then I was hooked ever since. Even after videotapes faded away there were dvds of jams. Check Redbull BC One and Lords of the Floor. Just when you think something has reached its peak, someone comes out of seemingly nowhere and shows you something you didn't think possible (Koreans). Check Planet Bboy.

Soooo. Evo 4 is around the corner. It's in Atlanta. Sort of reminds me of the Breaklanta days, although a completely different beast. I've never been to an Evolution jam before, but I may make the trip. If I don't make it I know there will be more...because the culture never fell off or disappeared and this post is for the people who keep it alive. Can't fit them all on here, but if you look you'll find the goods.

So I figured blogs sort of fell off.. they did for me at least after Xanga and I never used the one they had on Myspace.. but apparently they've just evolved. I'm jumping in on this game pretty late and still haven't really decided on a direction for it. We'll just have to see where it goes. I still refuse to get a twitter account though.
